Does public speaking helps in developing critical thinking skills?

As we talk about public speakings, those who practice this skills will not be considered as a good public speakers when they cannot manage their critical thinking skills. A better preparation made by the speakers, results in more comprehension by the listeners about the messages that wants to be delivered.

Critical thinking skills, usually applied towards the whole process of the public speaking. It consist of the preparation before the speech, an action to be taken immediately during the speech, and the post reaction after the speech has being done. All of this stages required the speakers to deal with an arguments or the critics from their listeners. A solution or recommendation will be presented as the answer of any questionable issues about their speeches.

Arguments always come in many kind of view including the validity of the fact or unproved opinion revealed by the speakers during his speech. A different between the fact and opinion is the fact will be supported with added materials that agree with the statement made by the speakers, while the opinion is a speaker’s logically assumption, or perception about the issue that they triggered to their listeners. Sometimes, arguments may come with an action or gestures act by the audiences as to express their unsatisfaction about the delivered message.

Before starts their speech, public speakers should be aware with their potentially questionable facts or opinion that can be asked by their audiences. Gaining more experiences in public speakings give an advantages to the speakers by comfortabling themselves with frequently asked questions that they need to deal with from their previous speech. An adequate materials through proper research should raise their confidence to come with better explanation from time to time.

A spontaneous reaction leads to the reliabilty of speaker’s statements.

During performing their speech, public speakers usually faced an arguments shockingly. This situation need the speakers to emphasized with critical thinking ability which concerns to the argument’s weak point. With a support from an additional material, and well performed persuasive techniques, the details will become clearer from audience’s perception. Hence, the critical thinking skills improve from critics to another critics, and from question to another question.

Post analysis should be done after the end of the speech. Some arguments doesn’t meet a solution as the speakers usually promote recommendation to overcome the obstacles occur. Development of critical thinking will be more quick when research are conducted to explore more reliable facts or information about the issue’s that the arguments emphasized of during the previous speech.

As a conclusion, public speaking is one of the best medium to enhance our ability to communicate more effective with our audiences who will be more eager to gain new information from their participation of seminars, forums, or conference that use public speaking as a tools of dissiminating information.
